Trump’s Team Plans To Withdraw US From WHO

President-elect Donald Trump’s team is determined to pull the United States out of the World Health Organization, with the move potentially taking effect on his inauguration day, January 20, according to the Financial Times.

If the US follows through with this decision, the WHO will lose its largest financial contributor, severely impacting its ability to address global health emergencies like the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In 2022-2023, the United States contributed roughly 16% of the World Health Organization’s funding.

Experts warn that pulling this support could have devastating effects on global health. They believe that while former President Trump may not fully grasp the potential consequences, some members of his team are eager to take action.

Back in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump considered withdrawing the U.S. from the WHO, accusing the organization of being overly influenced by China. However, the U.S. remained a member after Trump left office and Joe Biden took over.

Now, some of Trump’s advisors are pushing to accelerate this effort.

Trump has also nominated Robert Kennedy Jr. for the role of Health Secretary in his potential future administration.

This move has raised eyebrows, as Kennedy has been a vocal critic of vaccines, particularly during the pandemic, making his appointment highly controversial.
