Trump’s Anger Out of Control as Poll Numbers
Donald Trump’s advisers are growing increasingly concerned about his faltering public appearances following the attempt on his life and the Democrats’ surprising change in their presidential candidate. Despite their worries, they acknowledge that Trump is unlikely to alter his approach.
A recent report by Axios reveals that Trump has become more erratic behind the scenes as Kamala Harris has overtaken him in several polls.
This lead is expected to widen after the upcoming Democratic National Convention. The latest New York Times polls released on Saturday show Harris leading Trump by four points in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan—within the margin of error.
Trump’s frustration over the Democrats’ resurgence became evident in a Times report on Friday, which revealed that he repeatedly called Harris a derogatory term in private.
He also had an aide text billionaire Miriam Adelson, one of his top supporters and a major donor to the super PAC Preserve America, to complain that the group’s leaders were “RINOs” (Republicans in name only), according to the Times.
Aides were concerned that Adelson, who was reportedly shocked by the outburst, might reduce her donations.
Trump’s advisers recognize that it is unlikely to change the behavior of a 78-year-old known for his stubbornness. Therefore, they are focused “not on the need for him to change but on the need to adapt his message to win,” a source told Axios. “But he has to convince himself to leave the other garbage behind,” the source added.
The advisers, described as “deeply rattled,” are also hoping he will adopt a new “hard-hitting” stump speech that promotes a winning message. They’ve invested tens of millions into TV ads, targeting key states like Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan, in a significant ad blitz.
