That Donald Trump Is ‘Going To Lose’ Against Kamala
Former Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) noted on Friday that Donald Trump’s campaign is following the “same format” as it did in 2020, and he predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris could come out on top if Trump continues with this approach.
“If it becomes a contest of personalities, his against hers, he’s going to lose,” Kasich said during an appearance on MSNBC. “However, if it turns into a debate on ideology and track records, he has a chance to win.”
John Kasich, a prominent Trump critic and former contender in the 2016 Republican primaries, has voiced concerns about the former president’s strategy. Kasich believes that Trump is overly focused on receiving praise from his core supporters.
He argues that politicians need to reach out beyond their base to win elections, rather than relying solely on their most ardent followers.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Ryan Nobles, Kasich emphasized the importance of appealing to a broader audience. When asked if Trump’s campaign could succeed by targeting “the middle of America,” Kasich responded that it “just makes total sense” to reach out beyond the GOP base.
“If you’re only focusing on your base, what about the undecided voters, especially in closely contested battleground states?” Kasich questioned.
Recent polling data supports Kasich’s point. A new poll released Wednesday indicates that Vice President Kamala Harris is either leading or tied with Trump in six out of seven key battleground states.
Kasich also pointed out a potential weak spot for Democrats. He noted that while Democrats could be vulnerable in their economic messaging, given that President Joe Biden has been in office for three years, Trump isn’t capitalizing on this.
“I don’t think Trump is taking advantage of any of it,” Kasich said. “Ryan, you follow the guy — he gets bored with things that are critical here. That’s why he goes off script.”
