Piers Morgan and Caitlyn Jenner Back Donald Trump After His Conviction
In a dramatic turn of events, a jury of 12 New Yorkers has found former President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen.
The verdict, announced on Thursday, has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, drawing reactions from various public figures, including Caitlyn Jenner and Piers Morgan, who have expressed their continued support for Trump.
Piers Morgan, one of the first to voice his support following the conviction, took to X to express his dismay. “This is a sad, shameful, and ridiculous day for America,” Morgan wrote. “To drag a former President, who is running for President again, through criminal courts over something so trivial feels like a massive overreach & an incredibly divisive and obviously politically partisan action.”
Caitlyn Jenner echoed similar sentiments on X, condemning the actions of the New York state and federal government. “Absolute chaos by the state of New York and the federal government. The United States is a banana republic under the Biden DOJ.
Disgusting! Hope the court of appeals steps in with swift action,” Jenner stated. She reaffirmed her support for Trump, declaring, “THE ONLY VERDICT THAT MATTERS IS THE VOTE OF WE THE PEOPLE, OF THE USA, ON NOVEMBER 5, 2024!”
As reported by CNN, the former president, who is considered a leading contender for the Republican nomination in 2024, appeared visibly distressed as the verdict was delivered. Accompanied by his son Eric Trump, who sat behind him in the courtroom, Trump looked visibly flushed. With a furrowed brow, he grasped his son’s hand, giving it a quick shake as they prepared to leave the courthouse, underscoring the gravity of the moment.
In a recent statement, President Joe Biden’s campaign praised a pivotal court ruling while underscoring the critical need to defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, commented, “Today’s judgment in New York confirms that no one is above the law,” and emphasized that the American public must still confront the underlying issues by voting. Tyler reiterated that voting is the surest way to prevent Trump from regaining the presidency.
Tyler further stated, as reported by the Telegraph, “A second Trump term would bring chaos, strip away Americans’ freedoms, and incite political violence. The American people will reject this in November.”
Despite being found guilty on all counts in his Manhattan hush money trial, Trump faces additional criminal charges in three other cases. Two of these involve allegations that he attempted to fraudulently overturn the 2020 election results, which he lost to Joe Biden.
On Thursday, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on all 34 charges out of a total of 88. The other three cases, two of which were brought by special counsel Jack Smith on behalf of the Justice Department, encompass 54 charges.
One federal case involves Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents. Another federal lawsuit, also overseen by Smith, accuses Trump of attempting to interfere with the 2020 election results. Additionally, in Fulton County, Georgia, Trump and fourteen others, including some former attorneys and administration officials, are charged with attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.
In all these cases, Trump has pleaded not guilty. While no trial dates have been set, it is unlikely that any will begin before November 5th.
