6 Years For Donald Trump To Reach GoFundme Target: The GoFundMe campaign created to cover Donald Trump’s civil fraud fine is projected to take nearly six years to reach the target of $355 million, assuming the current donation rate persists.
Last Friday, Elena Cardone, spouse of real estate mogul Grant Cardone, initiated the GoFundMe initiative titled “Stand with Trump; Fund the $355M Unjust Judgment” in response to Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling on the same day. The ruling decreed that Trump would be liable to pay approximately $355 million in penalties for fraudulent activities.
As of Friday morning, the fundraiser has garnered $1,058,227 from around 19,100 donations, a week following its launch.
If this trend persists, it would take approximately 5.8 years for Trump to amass the entire $355 million fine owed, before interest.
This development comes subsequent to a New York court ruling that Trump and high-ranking executives at The Trump Organization engaged in fraud by inflating asset values to secure more favorable deals from lenders and insurers.
New York Attorney General Letitia James, who initiated the lawsuit, stated that including pre-judgment interest, the penalty surpasses $450 million—a sum that “will continue to accumulate every single day” until the judgment is settled.
Trump’s legal team has announced their intention to appeal the court’s ruling.
Christopher Phelps, a professor specializing in modern American history at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, shared his insights with Newsweek, suggesting that the page is unlikely to endure over time.
He remarked, “This GoFundMe initiative, typical of such endeavors, may experience an initial surge of support, fueled by the unique dynamics of this presidential year. However, it’s highly doubtful that it will maintain momentum in the long run.”
“Moreover, a mere $1 million barely scratches the surface of Trump’s legal woes. He’s facing far weightier concerns, such as the 91 felony indictments looming over him, which could very well result in prison time if he’s convicted.”
In a separate development, Engoron declined a defense request to postpone the imposition of penalties on Thursday.
There’s speculation circulating that Trump might need to liquidate portions of his extensive real estate holdings to satisfy the hefty penalty levied against him.
However, in an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, James hinted at a more aggressive approach if Trump fails to cough up the funds. She indicated her readiness to petition a judge for the seizure of his assets if necessary.
“We’re fully prepared to ensure that the judgment is settled for the benefit of New Yorkers,” James affirmed.
