Elon Musk Made $112 Million Mystery Gift In Final Days of 2024
Just two days before the New Year, Elon Musk donated 268,000 Tesla Inc. shares to undisclosed charitable organizations.
The billionaire’s recent gift, valued at nearly $112 million, was reportedly part of his “year-end tax planning” and was directed to “certain charities,” according to a Tuesday filing.
In the closing days of 2024, Elon Musk quietly made a $112 million donation to an undisclosed recipient, raising questions about the intent and destination of the sizable gift. While the details remain shrouded in mystery, the timing and secrecy have sparked widespread speculation about its purpose.
Neither Musk nor his top advisor, Jared Birchall, immediately responded to requests for comment.
At 53 years old, Musk holds a staggering net worth of $432 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
This isn’t the first time he’s made substantial donations of Tesla stock. At the end of 2021, he donated $5.7 billion worth of shares to unnamed charities, which, as revealed in later tax filings, were directed to his own nonprofit organization, the Musk Foundation.
Last year, the Musk Foundation reported $9.5 billion in assets and distributed a record $237 million in donations.
However, much of that money ended up with organizations also controlled by the world’s wealthiest individual. U.S. nonprofits are generally required to spend or donate at least 5% of their assets annually—a standard Musk’s foundation has consistently failed to meet.
