Diddy Legally Restricted…
Diddy faced a storm of criticism online this past weekend after releasing an apology video in response to CNN’s footage of him abusing Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel back in 2016. Many questioned why he didn’t directly address Cassie in his apology, but this was intentional due to the terms of their November 2023 settlement.
According to TMZ, a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in their settlement prevents Diddy and Cassie from mentioning each other’s names publicly. Diddy reportedly wanted to address Cassie, but refrained to comply with the agreement. TMZ also noted that his attorneys had to review the apology video before it was posted to ensure he didn’t breach the NDA.
In addition to the situation with Cassie, Diddy is dealing with several other lawsuits that require legal action. TMZ reported that his legal team is cautious about him making public statements, fearing his words could be used against him in court.
This NDA and Diddy’s legal team’s careful monitoring explain why both Cassie and the “I Need A Girl” artist have remained mostly silent since November. However, social media users and other celebrities have kept the allegations in the public eye through constant discussion and commentary.
Reflecting on the incident in his Instagram video on Sunday, May 19, Diddy said, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you gotta do that. I was messed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”
Cassie’s husband, Alex Fine, addressed the issue by writing a heartfelt letter to women and children about men who abuse women. “Men who hit women aren’t men,” he wrote. “Men who enable it and protect those people aren’t men. As men, violence against women shouldn’t be inevitable. Check your brothers, your friends, and your family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives should feel protected and loved. Hold the women in your life with the utmost regard. Men who hurt women hate women.”
Fine went on to express his support for abuse survivors. “To all the survivors, find the men and women who help and love you. Your stories are real, and people believe you. You’re not alone, and there are men and women who care about your well-being and safety. We want you to succeed and flourish. To all the women and children, I’m sorry you live in a world where you’re not protected and don’t feel equal. I want to raise my daughters in a world where they are safe and loved.”
The disturbing footage shared by CNN showed Diddy grabbing Cassie by the neck, throwing her to the ground, kicking her twice, attempting to drag her back to their hotel room, and later throwing objects at her.
